MEET ANDY NIELSEN

Andy_and_Kami

I grew up in Columbus, Indiana, with my parents and brother, and am a proud product of strong public schools. After high school, I attended and graduated from IU Bloomington with a degree in economics.

While at IU, I met my wife, Kami, who is a third-generation Eastsider and serves on the Irvington Community Council and is Co-Director of the Irvington Halloween Festival. We currently live in Irvington with our dog, Toby.

On any given day, you will find us out serving our neighborhood and attending community clean up days, tree plantings, and neighborhood meetings. I served as the treasurer of the Irvington Development Organization for three years, and currently serve as the Chair of the Plat Committee of the Metropolitan Development Commission for the City of Indianapolis, and am a volunteer tax preparer at Southeast Community Services.

Before joining the Indianapolis City-County Council, my work was focused on combating poverty in the Indianapolis community and statewide. I worked as an anti-poverty advocate at the Statehouse, where I focused on improving our tax code to better support families, protecting Hoosiers from predatory lending, and ensuring every person has a safe, affordable, clean place to call home.

I look forward to getting to know you and working alongside you to make sure the Eastside remains a vibrant, safe, and inclusive place to live, work, and thrive.
