INDIANAPOLIS COUNCIL CANDIDATE ANDY NIELSEN COMMENDS PASSAGE OF COUNCIL NO TURN ON RED PROPOSALS, CALLS FOR INDIANA LEGISLATURE TO REJECT HOUSE BILL 1050

Indianapolis, IN— Indianapolis City County Council Candidate Andy Nielsen (D-District 14), commends the Indianapolis City-County Council Public Works Committee on its passage tonight of proposals restricting turns on red lights (agenda here).

“The no turn on red policy is a positive step forward for the City,” said Andy Nielsen. “Indianapolis continues to see deaths and injuries on our streets and roadways every day and we must do more to make our infrastructure work for all users—not just cars.”

Two hours before the committee passed these proposals the Indiana Senate passed Amendment 5 to House Bill 1050 which would disallow Indianapolis City-County Council officials from making decisions to save lives on Indianapolis streets.

“The amendment to House Bill 1050 today will continue to exacerbate the Indianapolis Pedestrian and Bicyclist Crisis,” said Andy Nielsen. “I encourage our Statehouse leaders to see the merits of data-based decisions and reject the language that went into House Bill 1050 today.”
