ANDY NIELSEN ELECTED TO INDIANAPOLIS CITY-COUNTY COUNCIL
Eastside (District 14) To Be Represented By Longtime Anti-Poverty Advocate, Public Servant, and Community Leader
Indianapolis, IN—Tonight, long-time anti-poverty advocate, nonprofit leader, and public servant Andy Nielsen became the clear winner in the contested race for Indianapolis City-County Council District 14. Nielsen has more than a decade of experience working to advance progressive economic policies at all levels of government, and is an established community leader on the Eastside of Indianapolis.
“I am honored to have earned the support and trust of my fellow Eastsiders,” Nielsen stated. “Five hundred and twenty-two days ago, we launched our campaign to build a more vibrant, safe, and inclusive future for the Eastside – and I’m ready to be your full-time advocate on the Indianapolis City-County Council to transform our city, together.”
Nielsen will begin his new role in January, alongside a new body of Indianapolis City-County Councillors elected tonight, as they continue the work to make Indianapolis an even better place to live, work, and thrive. Nielsen believes firmly that Indianapolis can tackle big challenges such as making our streets and sidewalks safer, ensuring everyone has a safe, clean, and affordable place to call home, and supporting development opportunities that benefit all neighbors.
During his campaign, Nielsen received overwhelming support from Eastside leaders and community members, in addition to endorsements from the Indy Chamber, the Indiana Young Democrats, the Indiana Stonewall Democrats, and national organization the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.
